  • Step 1: First, place the cake on a clean surface. Trim the top of the cake using the bread knife, so that your cake will be at one level on the top. Now cut the cake in half, crosswise, to make 6 1/2 by 9-inch rectangles.
  • Step 2: Now, we will spread a thin layer of chocolate frosting on top of one cake and place the other cake on the top. Again cut this 2-layer cake into the shape of a ship.
  • Step 3: In the middle of the top layer, carve a 1-inch deep rectangle for a deck.
  • Step 4: Now place the ship cake on a serving platter.
  • Step 5: Just spread the chocolate frosting onto the sides and top of the cake by avoiding the deck area. Using a fork make a zigzag line on the side of the cake.
  • Step 6: Spread the yellow frosting on the deck area on the top of the cake. For yellow frosting add yellow food coloring to the vanilla frosting to tint it yellow.
  • Step 7: Trim some of the pretzel snaps and press the cut edges along the boat edges to use as the railing. Press several biscuits onto the sides of the ship for the windows.
  • Step 8: Insert the plain breadstick into the front of the ship. Press the yellow balls and lifesavers on the sides of the ship.
  • Step 9: Using white construction paper create bones and skulls. (This is optional).
  • Step 10: And add them to the black construction paper for the sails and glue the bones and sulls to it.
  • Step 11: Cut holes from the top and thread the pretzel rods through the holes.
  • Step 12: You can also decorate the cake board by yourself. Pipe the blue icing to look like the water, you can add any plastic creatures to look like the sea. or you can take a print of the sea and decorate your cake on it. If you don’t like the bones and skulls on the top you can skip the 9, 10, 11, and 12 steps and follow step 13.
  • Step 13: Cut 7 sails (3 inches by 5 inches) from the paper, then slip them onto the masts and pinch them. So that it looks like they are blowing in the wind.
  • Step 14: Finally, tie a rope from the bow to the top of the mast.
